When you're under a turd avalanche there's hardly time to look at any particular turd, figure out what it means, and deal with it. This is the political strategy of "flooding the zone" that Republicans use to great effect whenever they gain sufficient power. This week's deluge of turds has been extra stupid, and now I must rant impotently for a moment.
How many more unambiguously impeachable offenses is this insufferable old fool, our Turd Commander in Chief, gonna commit before those with the power to do something about it start giving half a fuck? I reckon he's got a good dozen or so offenses left before too many bridges are finally burned. This little Iran thing? No biggie. After all…
- Fomenting insurrection? Not enough.
- Stealing and disseminating top-secret classified documents? Not enough.
- Being buddy-buddy with enemy dictators? Not enough.
- Taking foreign bribe money via his own crypto scam? Not enough.
- Filling his cabinet with completely unqualified yes-[wo]men? Not enough.
- Openly selling personal access for $5M a meeting? Not enough.
- Letting billionaire neo-Nazis steal and sell citizens' data? Not enough.
And let's not forget that he's certainly all over the Epstein files. Trump has lived a life entirely free from consequence. He's been a racist liar and cheat his whole life, raised to be corrupt because it's good for business, and none of it has mattered whatsoever. He's the poster child for sociopaths raising a sociopath. Trump proves that if you're rich in the US, laws don't exist.
Now we have so many people, lawmakers and regular folks alike, claiming that he's done yet more impeachable things, and this impeachable thing has definitely gone too far. But this absolutely won't result in his impeachment. Our Constitution is ultimately toothless if enough of Congress is willing to sit on their ass because Their Guy is the one in charge.
Where's the provision that allows for the people ⸺ the ones our government is supposedly of, for, and by ⸺ to themselves vote to impeach a sitting president? It doesn't exist and never will because freedom in this country is mostly an illusion. Our voices and votes matter only as far as a sitting Congress, one getting paid off by corporate interests and doing insider trading every single day, cares about them. And they do not care.
Remember that Trump lost the popular vote in 2016 but came to power regardless, the Electoral College doing its prescribed job and nullifying the will of the people, and then he forcibly reshaped the Republican party into one much more focused on fascism. If we, the people, actually mattered, this never would have happened in the first place ⸺ let alone all the allegedly impeachable horrors this man has committed ever since.
